Typhoon Drum, Turning the speed up on cereal harvest!
After a big cereal harvest in 2020, Daine Thomas went looking for an easy-to-implement management tool to increase efficiencies at harvest. He was focused on reducing issues he’d experienced at harvest with a John Deere front feeding into his header.
In 2020 Daine upgraded his JD 640D front to a JD 740D front. His upgrade was driven by searching for increased efficiencies and ideally improved yields. In looking at maximising machinery efficiency, he fitted out his current JD 740D with an i-paddock TyphoonTM drum to reduce feeding issues experienced due to the large harvest in 2020/21.
This change in machinery configuration was driven by issues encountered with large biomass cereal crops and outstanding yields from the previous year. The increased management options the installation of TyphoonTM Drum provided aided in reducing feeding issues. Daine attributed increased feed ability, fewer blockages and increased ground speed to a more efficient overall harvest experience.
“All evidence I’ve collected is purely from experience and discussion I’ve had with other growers, their advice and feedback along with the Primary Sales Team made it a seamless transition”, Daine.
In looking forward, Daine is confident that he’d look to purchase another Typhoon Drum when they upgrade or purchase new machinery. “It’s been an easy-to-implement improvement, saving us time and increasing yield. Essentially it’s upping our bottom line!” Daine
